It is a very important and noble goal to live your life in a prudent, virtuous, and morally excellent manner. There are many positive benefits such a life could yield including at minimum being an inspirational example and guide for others, championing moral values/attitudes, avoiding unnecessary trouble and conflict, being successful in your public and private life, and having healthy friendships. So the obvious question is how do I become prudent/virtuous? Prudence and the virtues can be developed in your character over your life time with hard work and disciplined application.
These are some important and practical steps we can take to become more prudent and virtuous.
1 – always be responsible for your actions, words, and thoughts and hold others accountable
2 – always be honest with yourself and others by acknowledge the truth and consequences of your decisions, words, thoughts, and actions
3 – always practice being just, moral, and all of the virtues on a daily basis
4 – be law abiding and obey moral imperatives as well
5 – develop, teach, and foster prudent and virtuous moral and ethical standards, values, attitudes, understandings, social norms, and behaviors
6 – always fight evil in any way you can otherwise it will proliferate
7 – be highly educated, creative, or productive and direct your time, labor, gifts, skills, talents at morally excellent goals – focus your mind on achieving morally excellent goals
8 – learn from other virtuous and morally excellent people and teachers (Jesus, Mahatma Gandhi, St. Augustine)
9 – have a prudent and virtuous mentor/accountability partner
10 – start saving college tuition money for your kids 2-3 years BEFORE pregnancy
